Loxahatchee is a largely rural community in western Palm Beach County of approximately 12.5 square miles, adjacent to Royal Palm Beach and the Acreage. Characterized by large lots of anywhere from 1 to 20 acres, Loxahatchee is one of the last communities in Palm Beach County that puts the standard of small-town, rural living above over-development. The term “Loxahatchee” is a Native American term meaning “Turtle River”, and is also the name of the lengthy Loxahatchee River which runs through parts of Palm Beach County. Nurseries, ranches, equestrian estates, and a large zoo of exotic animals known as Lion Country Safari make up the majority of the activity in Loxahatchee Florida, along with the obligatory local restaurants and shopping centers. Loxahatchee is a great place to call home for equestrian-enthusiasts and those that want to preserve an Old Florida rural living atmosphere.
